i guess they did not consider startup time to be an important metric. the terminal is like the only program that gets opened and closed on a regular basis...
The main goals for kitty performance are user perceived latency while typing and “smoothness” while scrolling as well as CPU usage. kitty tries hard to find an optimum balance for these. -

and running it as a daemon. almost. i think the first window becomes real, but if you close all the kitties, we're back to 300ms startups... -
