Why do people reply to followers-only posts that they cannot see the parent of

@yassie_j doesn't help that fedi software even lets you see those replies at all

and in masto the reply button changing to a double-arrow icon is the only indication that the post is a reply to something in the timeline

i usually just press the down arrow twice but sometimes i miss that
