I don't hate it either. But is it just me or does it seem a little too militaristic? Maybe it's part of the plot, but the push-up scene in the first episode was just weird and there was something in the second episode.

The main premise of the show is that starfleet kinda got a bit too authoritarian after the burn, and is trying to get back to its ideals. It's a bit weird but it's not nonsensical.

Maybe they should kick out the Jem'Hadar then.

It also has huge potential. As we learned in First Contact, the Earth was coming out of World War III and it was the event of first contact that caused the world to come together. The Burn lasted about 100 years, which is at least a few generations of humanity and now we're coming out of that.

Once again the Earth is moving from war to the Federation. Sure it's a little easier this time, but no transition at that scale is a fast one.

I'm guessing one of the first big themes of Starfleet Academy will be getting to know and understand the "War College", initially as rivals. Then in the future (later seasons) I expect they'll begin to merge.

I've resorted to watching the Orville. Some how it has the closest vibe, even if it's a comedy

An interesting new take on Trek includes some characters you already know.

Finally got to see it and I don't think it's for me. After reading a lot of positive and negative reviews, I think that liking this show or not really depends on what Star Trek means to you personally. For me, it was just missing too much of what I go to star trek for to be enjoyable.
