Not to get political, so I'll just briefly mention it: I read about the internet shutdowns in Iran... and I've heard about similar things in India, during times of civil unrest...

anyways, this post isn't about politics, but the aftermath of such internet shutdown... like personally, how would people deal with it... like entertainment-wise...

Like... if the government of the country I'm living in right now, if they did this internet shutdown... I'd think I'd suffer from withdrawl and I feel like I wouldn't be able to function...

Like... I got so used to be able to just look up any movie, tv show, anime, book, youtube video, google any information I wanted... I never prepped for an internet shutdown...

I feel like a drug addict lol... if they shut down the internet... I'm gonna have severe withdrawl symptoms...

Can most people even cope with it?

I’m not bored without internet. Certain reference information and current events are an issue though

      I’m not bored without internet.

Is it possible to learn of this power?

Or am I just too Gen-Z to ever learn it?

How did you get the playlists? I'm sure there's a better way than grabbing them one by one.

If you use yt-dlp you can just give it the entire playlist URL.

If you’re serious, I have lots of ideas. Everywhere I look, I always see something to clean. I like to get outside during all the seasons and observe what is happening. I print recipes I like and make notes to tune them to perfection. Get a ukelele and a how to play book for beginners. Or skip the book and just make up little ditties. Go for a walk, do yoga, or body weight exercises. Start a journal. Write down at least one thing that happened each day. Bonus, add weather observations. Get a radio from a thrift shop. Call someone you haven’t talked to in a while. Check out your local library’s current periodical section. Check your local town and county for events or classes that interest you. Find a creative reuse store and get some crafty supplies. Find a board game group. There’s soooo much to do!

Honestly I just realized that parents wouldn't have Wechat to scroll anymore without the internet so maybe I could get some family bonding time? lol

I feel like I had a better relationship with parents before smartphones and constant social media...

              ugh... society...

Do parents these days even care about their children anymore or do they just get addicted to their phones and neglect their children?

Haven't to me in Sudan for a me, and yes it is an addiction, but you do cope, its just you keep reaching for the phone, sometimes without realizing it.

                Also it's fucking boring

Phones do seem especially addictive. But there have always been distractions for parent. There was the cordless phone. And before that the corded phone. And soap operas. And magazines. Sometimes we just gotta choose to be present because life is so short and unpredictable

If you can find a way to disconnect from the Internet for several days, you might really appreciate the experience. Maybe a camping trip, or some sort of vacation like a cruise.

The first day or two might be a bit rough (it really is like an addiction), but once you get through that part, it's amazing — in my own experience, anyway. It's like all anxiety just melts away. You literally can't worry about anything that would require Internet access to find out about.

I started getting into Meshtastic recently. It creates a p2p mesh network with other Meshtastic devices and you can send text messages through them. It seems good to have in case of emergencies/disasters.

Also, I recently discovered Bitchat. It seems similar to Meshtastic, but works over Bluetooth, so much shorter range. Might be useful in crowds or apartments though.

                        Oh jeez

I think I'd have to replace the "internet addiction" for "craving love from parents"

I don't think I can like do a camping trip alone... camping trip with dad would be so great... actually yea maybe a camping trip with my dad only and mom not being there would be so great, an actual break from the toxicity.

Parents so so busy with their stuff tho... ugh...
