‘Everybody’s at each other’s throats’: James Cameron says he has left the US permanently
-
The whole country is doing a Titanic.
Doing a speed run from "I'm the King of the World!" to drowning.
-
Yeah. And as a kiwi it kinda pisses me off that we let wealthy Americans in. I'd rather it was a generic visa program than a pay-to-play.
I mean, you can just put boulders over the bunker doors when they try hiding.

Whenever I see people telling American to just leave the US, I always think "so I have to be rich to move to a new country? And I'm supposed to be a problem?" It costs tens of thousands of dollars to get just the application. It's extremely privileged to assume everyone can do that.

Back during W Bush second term, I looked at migration to just Canada. It was several thousands of dollars for the application, need to have employment shortly after moving there or before then. Now it's harder to do so.

We need someone stronger than them since they still compromised with conservatives. We need someone who will control the party with an iron fist and yank everything left instead of just wanting to return to the status quo. Someone willing to tell every Republican and their supporters to go fuck themselves.
I hope that someone is AOC. It would be an extra spicy repudiation to these bastards if it was GASP, a woman, who reformed America and is a central figure in the history books.

Cameron will be forgotten once he leaves the Hollywood media bubble. He's never been politically influential, and his short intervals of fame relied solely on 2 movies. But his fame from Titanic and Avatar has mostly died out.
He could always make an anti-Trump film, and have the EU fund it.
-
Exactly, in the article he sees the problem but instead of using his money to help he fucks off to be safe. He may not be an asshole but he's a a bit cowardish for it I feel even if he can still help from NZ it's more likely he will just focus on his life there than try to put out the gordian garbage fire that is the US
Oh no, its well documented that he's a raging asshole. Fuck James Cameron.

I mean, remaining on a sinking ship doesn't save anyone else from drowning. Some people have a life raft, I can't blame them for using it. I would get out if I could, cause things don't seem to be getting better anytime soon except on the off chance the midterms actually save us.
Ideally, the folks getting away on the life rafts wouldn't be determined by how much money they have. Maybe send the most vulnerable first, and the people with the means to resist stay behind. But that's not how this situation works, unfortunately.
It's a crabs-in-a-bucket situation. Why pull down the ones who can escape?
Honestly, if I was relatively wealthy, odds are that I would tuck tail and run away from the US. Unfortunately, my poverty has backed me into a corner. Flight isn't an option, only fight.

Why does a canadian have an obligation to help the US?
Which countries do you think the mess will overflow into first? (Not to mention the ongoing global effects of the US dumpster fire)
Nationalism isn't a useful way to see the situation. It's everyone's problem, and those who have the wealth and influence to help are especially obliged to solve this.
-
Would you prefer he stay in the US and continue funding this regime?
America will outlast Trump. The Dems need another candidate with the campaign skills of Bill Clinton or Barack Obama to make him and his followers totally forgettable. Republicans will triumph as long as the Dems keep pushing presidential candidates with weak campaign skills on us.
This isn’t just Trump. People want to act like this is one man. The United States does not function. It will not get better after Trump leaves.

ITT: People mad that Canadian celebrity won't stay in the US and fix it.
FYI, he moved to New Zealand.

I feel like it says a lot that he believes everybody is at each other's throats right now.
Most people seem to have a lot less tolerance for unnecessary bullshit, as in just not having the energy to waste pretending.
I think it's because most people who are aware of reality are also aware that shit is very bad right now, unless you're a Nazi and it's intentional. This country is being held hostage by Nazis trying to goad us into a civil war, and it's kind of psychotic to pretend things are normal.
There are some people who seem to want to pretend the same rules as always still apply, because it makes them feel more in control. They get offended when people don't play along and pretend reality isn't reality, but ... tough shit. This is a fucking ridiculous mess.
I can't help but wonder if he views people no longer pretending to be nice about his bullshit as "everyone being at each other's throats."

Via con dios. I'm a blue collar paycheck to paycheck schlub. I have to stay. I have to survive. In the end I will bring a strong back and a shovel to clean up the mess.

He could use his money to fund opposition
He still can. This doesn't change that

Lots of people left russia before and after the war started, it doesn't hurt enough. Government was actually ok with that.
I'm about 90% sure they've been trying to get educated people to leave the U.S. before the midterms. It feels like some of the disinformation campaigns of 2026 have become so obvious now compared to the campaigns of 2016.
There's obviously a chance there won't be midterms but as dumb as these people are, they probably didn't kick off a 50 year long plan to destroy the U.S. government and overthrow democracy without a Plan A, Plan B, and probably a Plan C.
Even if Plan A is to cancel the midterms, it's easier to do that, along with a lot of other bullshit, if you successfully carry out a Plan B where you convince a significant chunk of the population with education, money, and influence to leave the country before you carry out Plan A. That leaves a weaker population to push back against you.

It's funny, reading your sad little statement while thinking about the countless immigrants who left everything to start a new life in America, back before the fascists took control. We really are a sad little nation now, in more ways than one.

Yes take what you could and get out while it’s bad. Fuck off then.

It won’t be contained so, you are saying you will deserve it when it comes for you?

Not really surprised a Canadian would do that. Rich Canadians seem to be pretty fucking awful.

He could get out there and energize protests. In the country he got so much out of. While its citizens rot with no healthcare he lived like a king off our labor. Fuck every one of these people.
