So I am trying to get a blog running on my VPS, and I already managed to use WordPress for that, but I really would like something a bit more basic. I also managed to get writefreely running and was not impressed with that (unlike WP it basically just pushed a single link post into the fediverse and didn't allow any further interactions).
Plume doesn't seem to be developed anymore.
Is there any other app for single-users that allows federation?

Most microblogging platforms actually don't artificially limit the amount you can write, unlike Mastodon, so they can also work for macro-blogging.

Mastodon's character limit is pretty easy to change when self-hosting, but it has other limitations like a lack of even basic formatting and images inline in posts. I think that's true of several of the others as well.

Wafrn might be worth a look. I've been meaning to try it myself.

Maybe not what you're looking for but Lemmy has been used that way.

It's a non profit and open source. But they do the same as WF, basically just an account that posts links to your blog.
