Brandon Sanderson’s Literary Fantasy Universe ‘Cosmere’ Picked Up by Apple TV, 'Mistborn' Set for Film Adaptation
-
Not a chance. Sanderson has full creative control and approval. This is excellent news.
He had specifically said Hollywood didn’t know what to do with him, because after being so wildly successful he didn’t need their money, and he wanted creative control. Most authors give that up when they sell rights.
And Apple TV has been killing it lately, IMO.
This is promising. The only problem is it might mean we get fewer books per year.
If he's successful, it might open the door for other authors to push meddling producers out of the way with better, more faithful adaptations. The First Law Trilogy, Powder Mage series, or even Lightbringer would be nice to see done right on screen.

Man, Mistborn could be so badass as a movie if done right. I know that means something different to everyone but I can't imagine Sanderson allowing it to be terrible. Even a mediocre adaptation would be fun.

I had hoped they would have gone down the animation route with something like fortiche / castlevania / vox machina, but I think Sanderson is absolutely set on live action.
Either way, Sanderson retaining so much control is very promising. The guy is also so passionate I would like to think we wouldn't see anything if it wasn't quality.

Happy its Apple TV, their stuff is typically really good from what I've seen. Wheel of time made me not even want a live action, but I'm hopeful now

Oh God, oh Lord no, I've been through this too many times. Please don't let another of my favorite book series be ruined.
most of what happened to book-show adaptation is always the meddling of the executives of the companies. the horrid 8 episode per 1-2 year series doesnt do most show justice.

The battle sequences in misborn always felt very anime to me, it’d look goofy in live action but awesome animated

Update From Brandon
Hey, all! News has broken. Rather than post on all the threads, I figured I would do a new post here with some info and thoughts.
In May I flew to Hollywood to start looking for a new partner on the Cosmere. This is something I've done before, but this time it was different. I'd been off the market for many years, working with Epic and my friends there.
That means this was my first time being in Hollywood with my Cosmere rights since...oh, 2016?
This time, I got to meet the real decision makers. Not just producers or low level executives. And this led to some really tough choices. I got the red carpet treatment, and liked everyone I met.
The decision to pick Apple was due to two factors. First, the level of approvals and control. Apple wants to be a true partner with me, and they feel like they really get what I want to do. Second, their track record. Apple does fewer things, but with higher quality, than some other studios. I find virtually every thing of theirs I watch is excellent and creator driven.
Join me for a livestream on Friday, probably 6pm mountain. I'll talk more then. But I will be writing the Mistborn screenplay myself over the next 5 months, as my full time work. Goal is for a theatrical Mistborn, then Stormlight show after. Focus on doing it carefully and right.
I promise not to get too distracted to do books. However, if I want this done right, I need to give some real attention and heart to it now.
