I love steam as much as the next guy but monopolies are bad and we should support other businesses when we can. When Gabe dies who knows what happens to all the steam games you "own"
Agree to that, bought games like Factorio and Vintage Story straight from the developer instead of through steam. It does help when the game natively supports Linux, if it doesn't then yeah Steam it is.

Does your grocery store sell licenses for the products you buy? I don't think the grocery store can take away the food you buy there if they simply decide to do so.
All the more reason to choose a 'grocer' you trust rather than a fly-by-night online store.

It's been over 7 years since the game was announced, and after being cancelled by Riot and bought back by the original devs, against all odds it is FINALLY playable!
The game was supposed to come out in an hour but it seems the devs released it early. I'll wait and see some early gameplay but it looks like I might buy it on launch day. Feels surreal that the wait is finally over.
Exciting! Can't wait to try it out.
Love that it has Linux support.

I fear that early access will kill this. Sure it will provide some money that might pay for the rest of the development, but streamers will play it now - der that it is literally work in progress in vast parts and maybe take another look once it finally releases, but the hype will be gone at the release.
"The hype will be gone argument" seems irrelevant.
This is not some live-service games.
They don't really need to be continuous growfth of fans.
Almost all games with continous growth have some predatory system.As long their business is sustainable, they can finish continue their journey even when things get dip a bit.

Let's be real, older games content is much more smaller, or if they want to update things they will sell you a second installment or something.
Except for online games.

And they were a lot simpler, and there was a lot less competition. Nowadays, games are everywhere and hype doesn’t last long. No hype, less sales, even though the game is great and released in the final version
for me, hype = don't buy it
I'm typically not a fan of what the masses flock too. it's usually bland, shallow and meme-esq. the more people that use a thing, the less quality is put into it I find. this goes for anything from travel destinations, to frying pans to games to restaurants.

I poked around with it for a bit and 3 hours vanished... Yeah, this one might replace luanti for me once its done
