X to doubt. Considering that they already had issues with censorship which is labeled as "bugs". The bug wasn't that the message wasn't sending, the bug was that you were able to detect that the message wasn't sending. That's how X/Twitter works. They don't "censor" anything, they de-prioritize it things that don't match current ideologies. They can call it whatever they want, the fact that the bugs only happens on specific topic points, and not on others, tells you that something was changed that was regarding those topic points which was causing the issue in the first place. What else would they be changing that required those specific topic points if not either a de-prioritization or a censorship. Being said, the article makes some good points, but also fails to realize that it's twitter/X was the same boat. Many people had to choose either to make a political statement or to keep their current friends or influences. I lost access to almost every content creator I followed when I left twitter. plus, you can tell when people leave a platform, the effect is very noticeable. On the individual level they are probably right, but on the majority level it will be noticeable.

well you can keep using Lemmy, I'm just talking about suggesting to unfamiliar people. Lemmy and PieFed share content anyways so it doesn't matter which you use, you'll see posts/comments/votes/communities from both anyways

I almost feel like someone needs to do a write-up of the 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone debacle - while not a 1-for-1 example (it wasn't a migration attempt that functioned the exact same way as it would with PieFed), it's a good case study for userbase-community owner-instance dynamics that should be considered, specifically the bit in your last sentence.

Misskey seems like it might be a viable alternative if only their server list wasn't under maintenance.
  • Thanks.

I doubt that it will be implemented in Lemmy, the application architecture needs to be different in order to support cryptographic identities. But there are other implementations (they are listed near the end of the document).

lemmy-federate is the wrong solution to this problem. It duplicates data on all instances, even those with no subscribers. it increases the load and the amount of storage requirements for small instances What we need is a system where admins can set up a separate discovery service, and include that in search results. Mastodon is finally doing something in this direction, and Lemmy/PieFed/mbin would benefit a lot to adopt it.

Your method of removing nazism is what enables them, try to mature so we can fight them together. Idiotic offensives are completely useless, there's real need in the streets now for fucks sake and you're still whining online about your comfort social media imagined slights instead of doing anything

This is great but perhaps there's some other more appropriate community to put it.

Yes. I also agree the way you say it can betray the implication. If someone suggest a feature and your only reply is "PRs welcome ;)" it points to it being dismissive. However, after being in the "game" for a while so to speak, I can also understand dismissiveness as well since there's plenty of people who do drive-by suggestions and get upset when the developer doesn't immediately jump to implement them.

Isn't that algorithm thing not just a server-side feature? Don't see how that's part of AT Protocol

What do you mean by fediverse data? What problem are you trying to solve that isn't solved by BitTorrent and IPFS? The nice thing about the fediverse is that it's largely a concept with a few common protocols to make interoperability easier, you can solve pretty much any problem in line with the fediverse, but you do actually need a problem to solve.
