Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted. This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate. We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history. This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you’re submitting before posting to see if it’s already been posted. We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed. No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don’t share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine. We don’t want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

Right, but again, you have choices in almost every piece of hardware. Consoles lock you down a lot harder in this respect. You either but their hardware and possibly software, or you miss out on the whole thing. And a lot of people, like a sibling of mine is just getting to the point of maturity where you figure out the brand you like is the bad guy and you don't want to give them money anymore, but you sorely miss the product itself. Given how hard they're locked in, it's really hard for them to jump to a new platform. Not quite as bad as switching from Android to or from iPhone, but not super far off. Personally I jumped out completely before I got invested in a digital console store, so I didn't have that problem. But the point is that they gotta completely start a new collection and paradigm. Whereas if you one day have a huge problem with let's say, Steam, you can just opt to never buy from them again without losing access to your library, no matter what hardware you're running it on. You can choose to never buy an Acer monitor, CoolerMaster PSU, or (insert other random examples) while still having a computer. I mean it's impossible to really find "good" companies, but you can at least pick your lines in the sand with a lot more granularity than just consoles. It's not perfect, but is still better than the big 3. Plus no matter where you land with your choices, you will still have the same library.

I agree with the fact that they aren't a great company, but anyone who's shopped around for skins/decals knows that dbrand is a cut above the rest in terms of quality. I've stopped buying from them due to how they run things, though.

they got the idea from pokemon games, how you need an app just store all the pokemon, plus another app for certain other features for the main pokemon game. before the switch/3ds transition, i believe you had to pay for "storing your excess pokemon" on a app.

Honestly, asset flips or pure ai slop are often not something you would consider a 'real game'. They are closer to a scam than anything. And they certainly wouldn't be published by a reputable publisher. I think that's also what OP was referring to, a game that meets some minimal level of development and involvement.

Gotcha, thought it might be the license and the fact gitlab is proprietary. Thanks for elaborating further on that. Heard a lot about codeberg and forgejo on Lemmy but not a lot outside of here. Liking what I see so far

For now there's nothing of the sort, but I'm only a few hours in. Could it be too good to be true...? Well, let's see. It is a AAA game after all... Edit: No, the game really is fun. 20 hours in, and I must say even if it were only exploring Hogwarts it would be quite worth my time. The music and atmosphere are really neat. Edit2: I can't believe it's a AAA title. There is no ingame shop, everything is obtainable just by playing. The world is beautiful and full of interesting stuff to find. And best of all: it's fun! The cash grab part is just a lie. If you have an agenda, use arguments, not lies.

I'm considering getting one in a few years once I chew through the 3DS library, and want an upgrade for bus drives. The dual screen might still be useful for browsing guides online and such. I also never touched the Wii U so there should be some duals screen goodies there to play.

Skullgirls is a great shout, that game still feels insanely deep for its age. I’m with you on Vagante too, co-op roguelikes like that never really get old. On the lighter side, I’ve also been playing Nulls Brawl lately totally different vibe, but it’s fun in short bursts and easy to jump into when you don’t want something heavy.
