Dave Bautista is The Kurgan. I have faith in Dave. He’s a solid actor that will hopefully be able to chew the scenery in such a way that does the role justice. And skimming through the cast, it’s solid. They’ll at least have good actors in it. Notable cast: Jeremy Irons Russell Crowe Karen Gillian Djimon Hounsou Jenn Jong-so I have good hopes for this reboot. Also: soundtrack will include OG Queen, so have faith my friend.

Moon 3.5/5 - Sam Rockwell may not be the greatest actor on the planet but he has a real knack for picking interesting movies. I like the people vs profit motive at the core They Cloned Tyrone 3/5 - It's a modern sci-fi take on blaxploitation. It's got good jokes and a fun plot. It just doesn't feel that fresh as a 2023 movie and frankly I can't take John Boyega as a serious actor. He always looks like a grumpy child Flow 4.5/5 - Beautiful animation with a compelling story. Obviously being made in blender will draw video game comparisons but that doesn't make this any less beautiful You Only Die Twice 3.5/5 - Surprisingly compact for a Bond film. I was a little grumpy that they didn't send Sean Connery to space (spoiler) Enter the Dragon 4/5 - Some excellent Kung-Fu. For as much as these movies devolve into "just Kung-Fu fight through everyone on the island" you wonder why they don't just start with that plan?

Rather than post on all the threads, I figured I would do a new post here with some info and thoughts. In May I flew to Hollywood to start looking for a new partner on the Cosmere. This is something I've done before, but this time it was different. I'd been off the market for many years, working with Epic and my friends there. That means this was my first time being in Hollywood with my Cosmere rights since...oh, 2016? This time, I got to meet the real decision makers. Not just producers or low level executives. And this led to some really tough choices. I got the red carpet treatment, and liked everyone I met. The decision to pick Apple was due to two factors. First, the level of approvals and control. Apple wants to be a true partner with me, and they feel like they really get what I want to do. Second, their track record. Apple does fewer things, but with higher quality, than some other studios. I find virtually every thing of theirs I watch is excellent and creator driven. Join me for a livestream on Friday, probably 6pm mountain. I'll talk more then. But I will be writing the Mistborn screenplay myself over the next 5 months, as my full time work. Goal is for a theatrical Mistborn, then Stormlight show after. Focus on doing it carefully and right. I promise not to get too distracted to do books. However, if I want this done right, I need to give some real attention and heart to it now.

I actually disagree. The first one obviously has the surprise advantage, but the second was just as good story-wise and expanded the concept gracefully.

Likability is pretty subjective, but I think that for the age it's aiming at it makes sense to have a little more conflict around the main dilemma. Shows for elementary school and younger are often "you don't want to do something? Just do it!" And that maybe makes sense because the audience may be too young to understand nuance, but as you get older you understand that sometimes people's initial reactions can change and people can grow. It wasn't just about her learning a lesson, it was about her friends learning to accept her too. They realized their preconceived notions that they were indoctrinated with may not be correct and their relationship with their friend was able to help them grow. If anything it's about overcoming those feelings, both against others and yourself and the power of community in the process. I'm not saying it's a perfectly coherent movie, but I think that level of dilemma matches the age range I'd expect to be most interested in the movie. Sometimes you do something scary and it's not immediately perfect and that's ok. It's something you can work towards and that can be overcome. It doesn't mean it wasn't worth it, because what would be worse is never embracing who you really are. I think the movie does a good job of at least getting that point across.

From the article: “I misplaced a rib or something,” Portman confessed... “It, like, went under. It was from being lifted all the time. That was really wild.” I'm guessing that might not be a technical term, but I guess it's plausible since I'm sure most people being lifted like that have built up a lot of muscle and bone density that she might have lacked. The big reveal in the article is that aronofski was weirdly trying to make them feud irl and they were able to figure it out immediately. Apparently they had been friends for a while and were texting each other about his anecdotes. I don't know why directors don't trust the actors to just... act? That kind of manipulative behavior is sick and clearly not needed since they didn't end up feuding and their performances were great.
