Something to help people lead to the Fediverse

The two devs Nutomic and Deslanies are pro-Russia anti-Ukraine tankies.
One has a GitHub where he posts all his mind numbing theory and goes on about how the Uyghurs aren’t undergoing a genocide or Tiananmen Square never happened.
The other has been caught multiple times making transphobic comments and just generally not giving a shit if transgender people are victims.
Together with some other equally bad people they make up a trio of instances commonly referred to as the “tankie triad” (lemmygrad.ml, Lemmy.ml, and Hexbear.net) where they ban everyone who says critical things about Russia/China and generally push propaganda.
Thanks sock puppet account, very helpful
-
Because the Lemmy devs support genocide, love Stalin, and are transphobic.
Oh. Oh no.
-
Ok but don't get offended or surprised when people recognize those dogwhistles and think you're the one whistling them.
Its all good after some Nazis get their shit kicked in by punks in doc martens

You know, when people say piefed is like reddit, I don't know if they realize it's exactly like reddit.
I don't see how those things in total make it like Reddit. For one, Reddit is overrun by AI slop in many areas. Piefed actively tries to mitigate it.
-
Glad you agree that Rimu is putting his own beliefs and ideology into the piefed code, any chance you know of similar issues with the lemmy code?
Not if there isn't any documentation and how do the users know if the social credit score is active on their instance? He intentionally makes it hard to know if your image or comment even applies, it is like this bizarre shadowban for anyone the glorious leader doesn't like.So everyone is clear your an alt-account of someone from lemmygrad or Hexbear.
You only seem to be active every few months in very specific posts where your beloved instance pro-Russia propaganda mill is at threat or you can bad mouth people who you don’t agree with.

Mbin is not as popular as Lemmy or Piefed, so nobody talks about it. Even before Piefed started being popular, Kbin was still not that popular compared to Lemmy in the past nor Piefed right now (might be an exaggeration).
With the Kbin lead dev, Ernest, not being active enough (due to medical reasons), the community forked Kbin, which is what we know today as Mbin.
https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/1383#issuecomment-1999046
Thanks. I knew that kbin had been forked to mbin, but didn't know whether mbin development had continued after that.
-
Mbin still exists https://fedidb.com/software/mbin
although the biggest instance, fedia.io, no longer allows anonymous viewing, which is kind of a shame
Thanks. I was wondering if mbin was still actively being used and developed.

looking at their Github they're still very active in development! If you want to follow their news !mbinReleases@gehirneimer.de

@rumba This is where we need to showcase things like Patreon and other ways of people making money from people who truly enjoy there work, pay people not corporations.
Just saw a headline that says apple is gonna try to start taking a 30% cut on patreon payments...

I modified a image I saw going around last year on
Global Switch Day
https://old.reddit.com/r/solarpunk/comments/1ijmkc0/make_the_switch_away_from_meta/Perhaps we could use it to make people aware of Reddit alternatives etc.
If you can imporve upon the image please do so, and feel free to use it.I just threw it together in KolourPaint in a few min.
Has anyone tried Pleroma or Misskey who can share their experience/opinion?
Just trying to get an idea of what's out there.
-
Yes, there is a compact mode in the user settings. It looks a lot like old.reddit. You can see it in action at http://retro.piefed.com/ but it can be used on any instance.

Cool, thanks!

Sure, but going down this list, most seems arbitrary and not based on data to mitigate slop bots.
Social credit scores are why I bailed on reddit. Not karma, but their "Contributor quality score" that demands people grind comments to keep the account alive.

Well, pleroma is kind of like a blend between 2010 imageboards and mastodon, it's kinda small and nice depending on which instance you are. Its used by a lot of personal website thanks to its low weight, and is popular among small independant web creators. You'll rarely see instance with more than 100 users. Biggest one i've found is https://udongein.xyz/ .
Misskey is more or less the same thing, but mainly focused on a japanese audience from what i've seen, with a flashy DUI and a large focus on user customisation with profile picture stickers, statuses, colored fonts, badges, and custom emojis. Biggest misskey instance i've found is misskey.io .
Both are fun, but they are more focused on communities/sharing than politics/news/real world (except misskey on some cases for... japanese reasons). Their smallness also tend to favor circlejerking behavior, but i guess that's an inner principle of the world wide web. They are worth the try.

Some additional features that PieFed has:
- You can create posts with polls.
- Crossposts shows comments from everywhere that something is crossposted to (organized into their own sections)
- Feeds for combining multiple communities into one.
- You can blur images with spoiler tags instead of having to use NSFW.
- You can tag posts and then filter down posts based on those tags within a community.
- You can set a time/date for when something gets posted.
That's just what I can think of off the top of my head. Otherwise a more complete list can be found here:
https://join.piefed.social/features/All communities with the word ‘meme’ in the name are automatically flagged as low quality but admins can override this on a case-by-case basis.
ok you got me interested
EDIT :
Default Blocks – Lemmygrad, Hexbear, and Nazi instances are blocked out of the box.
wait what? I might not have the whole lore but this reads as "communism" is not allowed. I guess that's a feature for some people.

That's okay, because those niches seem already filled on the fediverse anyway. I was mostly curious because it seems most of the social media formats have alternatives on the fediverse, except for the classic facebook/myspace where it was originally mostly about keeping up with friends and people you know in real life, joining interest groups, buying/selling used items on marketplace, etc.

So stay away from the “tankie triad” (lemmygrad.ml, Lemmy.ml, and Hexbear.net)
Gotcha

The com run by an outright fascist?
Well, you know what they say about liberals and fascism.
MoG isn't fascist or liberal. It's a community that exists to highlight Tankies and their extremism.
-
checks the age of peertube and the almost complete lack of interesting content
is it gonna start soon? It's almost a decade old and there's nothing interesting at all outside of a couple Linux people.
I totally get your point. I want to like it too, but so far the only channels that I've found worth following are Veronica Explains and The Linux Experiment, and even then, Veronica doesn't post very often. I was also following a comics channel but they faded away.

Recording, Editing and Posting video is exhausting. Assume that you get your donations in order from whatever service, you can then post it on yourube and get a extra pittance, or post it on peertube and get nothing, you'll have to have some other reason to give up the pittance.
Hell, there's more non-rightwing content on odysee than there is on peertube.
